A type of poem of type

Unable to tell the extravagant story
Pictograms conceded the glory
The Phoenicians roughly threw in the towel
Till the Greeks decided to buy a vowel

Sans Romans the world would be deprived
Since with them, a new Serif arrived
Charlemagne set a new system in place
Without which, we’d still be SHOUTING IN UPPER CASE

The foundation was set, to build on from here
Gutenberg had his press in gear
Garamond’s type, named after himself
Aldus asked: “Who needs a shelf?”

This is the story, but only in part
Of how the world created the art
An art with Helvetica’s friends on the list
All without which, this poem could not exist
